Zhou hopes to return to Formula 1.
Guanyu Zhou spent three seasons in Formula 1 with Sauber, but at the end of last year he was left without a contract, and in 2025 he is working with Ferrari as a third driver. The Chinese racer was in contention for a seat at Cadillac, but the new team signed Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas. Nevertheless, Zhou hopes to get another chance in Formula 1.
Guanyu Zhou: "I'm glad that I was able to spend three seasons in Formula 1. But I'm not thrilled with how last year turned out. There were too many changes in the team, which meant I didn't have the opportunity to work with my guys on the race crew. People were constantly changing. For example, the race engineer — and a lot depends on him.
My first season was good, and the car was competitive, but it suffered from many technical issues, mostly with cooling. The second season was pretty good. I was consistently closing the gap in points to Valtteri Bottas, and he's a very fast driver, especially over one lap.
I learned a lot and improved noticeably, but last year I scored only a few points. There was little that could be done with last year's car.
I'd like to get another opportunity to drive a car in which I can show what I can do."
