Gasly: We know which decisions have led to our current form
The last time Pierre Gasly scored points was before the summer break — at the Belgian Grand Prix. At the FIA press conference in Baku the Alpine driver said there was nothing surprising about such results, since the team had decided fairly early to halt upgrades to the current A525 car.
Pierre Gasly: "We understand that the season is not going as well as we'd like, and the remainder of the year will probably be fairly difficult for us as well. But that doesn't change our approach to a race weekend, because the team is trying to give its all. However, speaking about results, we are finding it increasingly difficult to make it into the second part of qualifying and to get close to the top ten.
From the very start of the season I supported the team's decision to fully focus on the 2026 car. So several tactical decisions were made not to work on upgrades to the current car, stopping development at an early stage. Partly this was influenced by some changes to the regulations that occurred over the course of the season.
As a result, we started the year, let's say, not badly, but gradually lost pace while our rivals improved. The gap itself isn't that large, but two or three tenths one way or the other determine whether you're in the top ten or at the back of the pack. Unfortunately, we're closer to the back. But the team knows which decisions led to us being in this situation.
I believe that in a few months all our efforts will be rewarded. I know the team works very well under the new regulations, so I'm really looking forward to the start of 2026."
