Alonso: I hope luck will be on our side in 2026.
On Thursday in Baku Fernando Alonso again spoke about the bad luck this year and hope for a better one next year...
Fernando Alonso: "On Monday or Tuesday after Monza I was told that the problem was not the kerb but a suspension failure, that the cause was not manufacturing or quality control – a stone simply got into a part that turned out to be not strong enough.
That part will always be vulnerable, but as a cause of a retirement it's a one-in-10-million case, so I hope that in the next 10 million races I won't have another similar failure.
Anything can happen in races. I remember in 2022, when Alpine had a decent car, but I had twelve retirements – and precisely in the races when I was running fifth or sixth. The team then lost 55–60 points to retirements, and this year at Aston Martin we've so far lost about 22.
It's a real shame not to be able to finish races when we deserve a good result, and when the car lacks pace and we're uncompetitive everything goes smoothly, we finish but don't score points. But that's how it is, that's the nature of this sport.
The main thing is that next year we have a good car. I hope luck will be on our side. I'm not asking for miracles, just plain luck."
