O'Ward commented on the rumors about negotiations with Cadillac.
Rumors about who will sign a contract with Cadillac F1, the new Formula 1 team currently in formation and preparing for its debut season, will inevitably continue until its roster is officially confirmed.
Graham Lown, the head of the 11th team in the championship, recently reiterated in an interview that he constantly receives calls from representatives of various drivers trying to place their protégés in the future General Motors team. Among the most likely candidates mentioned are Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, Mick Schumacher, while, for example, Daniel Ricciardo has already been seemingly ruled out.
Nevertheless, Lown stated that there are probably six to ten worthy names remaining on the list.
If Mexican driver Pato O’Ward is not included in Cadillac’s shortlist, he will almost certainly be in the top ten. He is performing quite well in IndyCar, currently holds second place in the standings, regularly steps onto the podium, and a week ago won a race in Iowa.
The most important thing is that he has experience driving cars of this generation of Formula 1, as Pato is a McLaren Racing driver. He has a super license, and he will once again race the MCL39 during a training session in Mexico City. However, O’Ward commented on these rumors in an interview with the Mexican sports publication Medio Tiempo:
“All of this is not true; it’s nothing more than a smoke screen. I think the rumors about my moving to Cadillac can be compared to the rumors that Fernando Alonso is dating Taylor Swift.”
Indeed, a couple of years ago, the press was quite amused by gossip that appeared in tabloid media linking the two-time world champion with one of the most popular American singers. At the time, we even wrote about how Fernando Alonso himself responded to those rumors in a humorous and original way. And now Pato mentioned it as an example of entirely groundless speculation.
