Hill: Norris is capable of winning three or four titles

      Damon Hill and Johnny Herbert, former Formula 1 drivers now working with The Race, in the latest episode of the Stay on Track podcast discussed Lando Norris's achievements and tried to predict how the 2025 world champion's career will unfold.

      "He has achieved what he set out to do, and because of that achievement he is very comfortable right now," Hill said, who also has experience of winning a championship. "To a certain extent that will help him relax. Now the question is to what extent a person is driven by sporting greed. When Michael Schumacher won one, two, three, four, five championships, that was enough. For some people that feeling makes them want to continue, and they win several titles.

      "Without doubt, I believe Lando is capable of winning more than one championship. He will probably be able to take three or four titles. But he races for the same team as Piastri, and you can't say that Oscar isn't up to championship standard. Last year there were moments when he fell back, but during the winter off-season he will analyse everything and find a way to avoid a repeat of those difficulties.

      "They fought each other for the title, and then, of course, Max Verstappen got involved as well, and by the end of the season both felt his pressure. That taught them a lot, and the McLaren line-up will remain strong, but Oscar and his team will act more decisively so as not to let Lando get the better of him again."

      "I think Lando improved hugely last season," Herbert continued. "He really realised what not to do on the racetrack — remember Canada, where he crashed into the barrier trying to overtake his team-mate. Crashes like that must never be allowed, and it will be a lesson for him. Certainly, we've by no means seen everything Lando Norris is capable of..."

      "I spoke with Trevor Carlin about how Norris climbed ever higher in the racing hierarchy (Lando drove for Carlin in the junior categories), and he said that this guy never had a normal life at all," Hill added. "All his life he has aimed only for success in Formula 1, worked extremely hard, trained and prepared to become the kind of driver he has become."
