DS created a concept car in honor of Taylor Barnard.
Last week the Brussels Motor Show opened, and at the stand of the French company DS Automobiles, the premium division of the Stellantis group, the stylish concept car Taylor Made No.4 is attracting press and public attention.
Such a car is unlikely to be produced in series—concept cars are not made for that—but the special feature of the new design is that it is dedicated to Taylor Barnard, a talented Briton who this season is driving for the DS Penske team in Formula E.
Moreover, the concept car’s very name is a play on words: “tailor-made” is a tailor’s term meaning “made to measure,” so DS’s marketers have quite cleverly played on the name of the 21-year-old driver, who last weekend finished fourth at the Mexican round of the electric series’ 12th season.
In addition, the premiere of the concept car—of course an electric vehicle with a racing character—coincides with the start of production of the sporty DS Performance Line, which the company was inspired to create by Formula E.
The Taylor Made No.4 has a widened track, racing tires, a distinctive aerodynamic body kit, and Taylor Barnard personally took part in choosing the silver-gray color scheme.
“I dreamed of a car like this, and DS Automobiles made my dream come true,” the driver himself said. “No.4 had already been my favorite in the company’s lineup, so when the design department showed me this project I was simply enchanted. It’s a great honor for me!”
True, attentive automotive experts immediately noticed that the concept car bears some resemblance to the Korean electric car Hyundai Ioniq 5, but that is not so important, because the car turned out to be interesting.
It should be added that the number 77, under which Taylor Barnard competes in the world championship in electric car racing, is integrated into its diffuser. By the way, at the DS stand his Formula E car is displayed next to the Taylor Made No.4 and the French company’s production models.
