"We simply require adequate run-off areas."

MotoGP chief Carmelo Ezpeleta indicates that the motorcycle championship could potentially compete on select Formula 1 street circuits in the future—though he specifies that Las Vegas is not among them. Ezpeleta was present at the Las Vegas GP last weekend, a premier event directly organized by Formula 1 and Liberty Media, which acquired the commercial rights to MotoGP earlier this year while keeping Ezpeleta in charge of Dorna.

"In terms of spectacle, what they do here is astounding," Ezpeleta remarked to DAZN. When inquired about the possibility of MotoGP racing in major urban areas, he clarified that while the championship is open to the concept, certain conditions must be met.

"We have no issue competing on street circuits," he stated. "We just require adequate run-off areas, which is a challenge in Las Vegas. However, there are definitely Formula 1 street circuits we could utilize. Safety remains our highest priority. Since we took over the championship in 1992, that has been our commitment to the riders. We do not want to compromise on that."

Ezpeleta highlighted that MotoGP is not entirely unfamiliar with urban settings, noting, "Technically, Mandalika is an urban area, and that’s where we race." The acquisition by Liberty is anticipated to enhance collaboration between F1 and MotoGP, with some speculation hinting at possible future joint race weekends—though Ezpeleta emphasized that this is still a long-term prospect.

It's clear that Liberty Media favors prominent street events. Jeddah, Miami, Singapore, and Las Vegas have established themselves as mainstays on the F1 calendar, and MotoGP already competes at five permanent F1 circuits—Qatar, Austin, Barcelona, Spielberg, and Silverstone.
