Nael: I floored the gas pedal and only looked ahead!
Théophile Naël won the Macau Grand Prix, and his name will now be added to the long list of winners of this prestigious event, which a year ago was granted World Cup status by the FIA as a Formula Regional competition.
At one time this street race on the famous Guia Circuit, with a lap length of 6,120 m, was won by Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, and in 2025, when it was held for the 72nd time, an 18‑year‑old Frenchman driving for the Irish team Pinnacle Motorsport distinguished himself.
He only took the lead in the closing laps, when he pulled off a very impressive double overtake: with that manoeuvre in the Lisboa corner he passed Enzo Deligny and his teammate Mari Boya at the same time.
Théophile Naël, Formula Regional World Cup winner: “I’m really in a great mood! To be honest, I just needed patience, and I had the pace right from the start of the weekend. Both starts — yesterday and today — didn’t go as I planned, so I just tried to stay calm, knowing we were racing in Macau and that anything can happen on this track.
The way the weekend unfolded can be compared to a roller coaster, and right now it’s hard for me to contain my emotions. I managed the restart well, after which I simply put it into sixth gear, floored the throttle and looked straight ahead.
I don’t know why my rivals slowed so much, but I moved to the left, then ‘closed the door,’ carefully watching Mari Boya’s moves in the rear‑view mirrors, and it worked!”
Emanuele Pirro, president of the FIA Single‑Seater Commission: “The 72nd Macau Grand Prix gave us the most spectacular show one could imagine! It confirms that the Formula Regional car is perfectly suited to racing on this circuit, and that there were many experienced professionals among the entrants, which is very important both for me and for the FIA, because Macau is a circuit for true racers.
The show was a success, and this Grand Prix will go down in history. I am very proud of how the drivers performed, and the crowd who watched the race from the stands surely went home with satisfied smiles.”
