Pérez: The goal for the near future is to finish on the podium.
On Thursday at Imola the Cadillac team's two-day tests with a two-year-old Ferrari SF-23 will begin. At the Italian circuit Sergio Pérez will take the wheel, and the day before the Mexican driver outlined Cadillac's goal for the foreseeable future — the team's first podium in Formula 1.
Sergio Pérez: "I truly believe that a podium is possible. If I'm not mistaken, I have stood on the podium with every team I have raced for, except McLaren.
I suppose that we'll start from the back, but gradually we will move forward. Ultimately, our goal in the near future is to finish on the podium. It doesn't matter which of us gets there — the main thing is that it's a Cadillac driver.
New teams that have debuted in Formula 1 in the past usually had problems with funding. Our team is taking the right approach and will do everything possible to win.
Cadillac is coming to Formula 1 with serious intentions. For me, it doesn't matter where we start. What matters much more is how quickly we can progress and move forward."
Speaking about the upcoming tests, Sergio Pérez spoke about the tasks the team will tackle: "I'm curious how many laps my neck will hold up before it gets really bad. But it's a great test and a way to finish the year, so I can return behind the wheel next year.
Essentially, the upcoming tests will give engineers and mechanics the chance to come together, start working together, and start speaking the same language."
