Alex Albon: It's important now to get back into the previous rhythm.
Alex Albon, speaking to the press at the São Paulo circuit, again emphasized that Williams's main task now is to continue preparing for 2026. Although finishing the season fifth in the Constructors' Championship is also important.
Alex Albon: "Overall the situation is normal, but I think you could say that we're at a stage where the team has largely switched its focus to building next year's car. That is receiving far more attention, but we still want to hold on to fifth place in the Constructors' Championship.
A few of the recent races were on specific circuits — I mean Austin and Mexico City, where I had issues related to the car's balance. In short, I think we were able to analyze everything in detail, completely stripped the car down, and the team worked really hard trying to find the cause of the problems.
I think we've identified a lot of different nuances, summed everything up, and I think overall we've got into a good working mindset and are prepared for the Brazilian round. Now our task is to act clearly and efficiently on every day of the upcoming weekend.
I think the problems only showed up at the two previous rounds, and overall we've had a pretty confident season, so right now it's important just to get back into the previous rhythm. We shouldn't have any major difficulties getting back to our previous level of results; we won't have to do anything unusual, and the approach to setting up the car will remain practically the same as it has been throughout the year."
In 2024 Albon was unable to take part in the São Paulo Grand Prix because he heavily damaged his car in the final stage of qualifying, and today he was asked whether he intends to take the same risks as then or to slightly adjust his approach.
"Last year, up to a certain point everything was going great, and then the situation changed," the Williams driver replied. "It's an interesting circuit, but a year ago whole rivers of water were running over it, and there were a lot of bumps on the asphalt. Some sections of the surface have been resurfaced now, so it'll be interesting to see whether it's become smoother. At the same time the asphalt here is a bit odd.
I don't want to dwell on last year's events, but I think, realistically, the approach should remain the same, especially since we then identified certain shortcomings of the car that were among the factors that caused the crash.
Although I actually like this track, and I'd rather race here in the wet than on a dry surface. I reckon it's great that in those conditions you can choose different lines — I think Max Verstappen has proven that more than once. Only visibility might be an issue."
