Aston Martin admitted breaching the financial regulations.
Aston Martin has announced that it has signed an agreement with the FIA acknowledging a breach of the financial regulations.
Recall that two teams in Formula 1 were suspected of breaching the financial regulations and exceeding the permitted spending in 2024. One of them was Aston Martin, and the team has now confirmed this.
The specific nature of the Silverstone outfit’s breach has not been officially disclosed, but sources familiar with the matter say it was due to the absence of a signature on one of the documents the team was required to submit to the FIA before the 31 March deadline. According to available information, Aston Martin was unable to do this due to circumstances beyond their control, but as soon as the signature was obtained the documents were resubmitted.
The team fully informed the FIA of the situation, and its actual expenditures were below the permitted limit. Nevertheless, the lack of a signature meant the team had committed a procedural breach in submitting the documents.
Because Aston Martin accepted the breach and signed the relevant agreement with the FIA, and given the circumstances and causes beyond the team’s control, no penalties were imposed other than the reimbursement of costs.
It is unlikely that the FIA will make an official statement about Aston Martin’s breach until the audit results for all Formula 1 participants are published.
