Antonio Fuoco on his upcoming debut with Ferrari
The 24 Hours of Le Mans champion, 29-year-old Antonio Fuoco, is eagerly awaiting the first Friday practice, where he will sit behind the wheel for the first time in an official Formula 1 weekend session…
Question: Antonio, in the first practice in Mexico you will sit in Lewis Hamilton’s SF-25. How important is this moment for you?
Antonio Fuoco: I am sincerely proud of the opportunity to debut in an official weekend session; it will make me happy both personally and professionally.
I will be driving Lewis’s car and working again in the adjacent garages with Charles, like in 2017 in Formula 2 – it’s a special event. We spent a lot of time together, then our paths diverged, but we have always maintained an excellent relationship, and today we have both achieved great success at Ferrari. This will be a Friday I will remember for a long time, a reward for my many years of support to the team.
Question: Thanks to your work on the simulator, you know the SF-25 very well. What contribution can you make to the team’s work in the first practice? What do you want to get from this experience, from the car, from working with the engineers?
Antonio Fuoco: My task is to collect as much information as possible to correlate with the simulator, to assess the behavior of the real car on track. Personally, this will help me improve the work I usually do on the simulator.
Working with Lewis’s engineers and the rest of the team at the track will allow me to gain even more experience, improve my technical feedback, and use this experience in my work in Maranello.
Question: Looking back on your career, how do you assess Ferrari’s influence on your growth as a driver and as a person?
Antonio Fuoco: Looking back on my journey, I can say that these years with Ferrari have been unique. We have come a long way, from the youth Academy to GT racing, through simulator work on the development of the Formula 1 car, through the 499P project.
I must admit that I am very proud of it, especially as an Italian driver who dreamed of racing for Ferrari since childhood. The victory in the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans will probably remain the culmination of my career, but the opportunity to take part in an official Formula 1 weekend session with Ferrari is a dream come true!
