Hamilton joked in response to Alonso's criticism.
Lewis Hamilton responded to Fernando Alonso's criticism of him after the Singapore race with a joke.
Two laps from the finish Hamilton was 40 seconds ahead of Alonso, but due to brake problems he was forced to sharply slow his pace and cut corners. In the end Lewis finished only four-tenths of a second ahead of Fernando, who was infuriated by the seven-time world champion's constant corner-cutting.
On team radio Fernando delivered a very emotional monologue: "Mate, I can't believe this! I can't believe it! He knows exactly what he's doing! I can't believe it, I can't believe it. I mean, how is that possible? I can't believe it! Is it safe to be on the track with failed brakes? Oh, he should have…"
After the finish the stewards fined Lewis Hamilton for cutting corners, adding five seconds to his result, and the Ferrari driver ended up eighth in the classification behind Alonso.
Today the seven-time world champion decided to answer Fernando's criticism. On social media Lewis posted a compilation of clips from the British sitcom One Foot in the Grave, in which the main character utters only one line: "I don't believe it!"
Hamilton succinctly titled the video clip: "18 years later…" It's a reference to the fact that 18 years ago he and Fernando Alonso raced together for McLaren, and their relationship has been strained ever since.
