Verstappen: A compromise is needed on setup in Baku.
Max Verstappen heads to Baku after his victory at the Italian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver, as well as his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, are hoping for a productive race weekend in Azerbaijan.
Max Verstappen: "The race in Monza was incredible, and the team has taken a big step forward in working on the car's setup. The win was a huge boost for everyone. Last week I was at the factory to celebrate this success with the team and to work on the simulator preparing for the next race.
We begin a run of away races in Baku. It's always harder to perform on street circuits, and the combination of slow corners and a long main straight means you have to find a compromise when choosing the setup, as well as the right level of downforce on the rear wing.
I hope we can maintain our good form this week and perform well not only in the race but also in qualifying."
Yuki Tsunoda: "The race in Monza was disappointing, but I always try to find the positives. I performed strongly in qualifying, and the race pace was there until the car picked up damage.
We are progressing week by week, and Max has set the benchmark by taking the win. With each race I'm getting closer to him, so it's nice to see that the hard work is paying off.
We couldn't fully unlock the car's potential in Monza, which is frustrating, but it gives me confidence heading into this weekend. In Italy I was more competitive on the flying laps, but now we need to work on long-run pace and make sure the car is set up correctly.
Baku is a fun but challenging circuit that can throw up a lot of surprises. You need to be fully focused here and extract the maximum from the car. That's exactly what I'll try to do this weekend."
