The FIA is confident: there will be no new "double diffuser".
When the rules change in Formula 1, teams sometimes find loopholes that allow them to gain a significant advantage, as happened with the "double diffuser" in 2009, when Brawn GP won.
FIA's single-seater race director Nikolas Tombazis said in an interview with FormulaPassion that the federation will allow no loopholes in 2026.
Nikolas Tombazis: "We are taking a different approach than before. We have made it clear to the teams that we will not tolerate anyone exploiting loopholes in the rules that they have hidden from us.
If a team proposes a solution based on their own interpretation of the rules, without asking us for clarification, we will not allow it. And if someone builds a new car concept on that basis, it will be a disaster for the team.
In 2009, during the double diffuser episode, the FIA was in contact with some teams, but not all, so teams were working with different interpretations of the rules. Now our absolute priority is to make the rules clear to everyone. If we consider that a question raised by one of the teams points to some ambiguity in the regulation's interpretation, we will clarify that matter to everyone."
