Tim Mayer will announce his candidacy for the FIA presidency

Former steward Tim Mayer is planning to run for the FIA president position in the upcoming elections at the end of the year.

On Friday, Mayer will hold a press conference to officially announce his candidacy.

Sources close to Mayer told BBC Sport that Tim has already secured the necessary support.

Late last year, the current FIA president, Mohamed ben Sulayem, dismissed Tim Mayer from his steward position due to disagreements.

After his dismissal, Mayer publicly criticized ben Sulayem for his management methods of the federation.

Tim Mayer is the son of former McLaren team leader Teddy Mayer.

He has held executive roles in American racing series such as Champ Car, IMSA, and the American Le Mans Series, and has served as a steward in many FIA-sanctioned series over the past 15 years, including Formula 1.
