"These issues have thus led me to adopt a realistic approach."

A possible contender for Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s FIA presidency has withdrawn from the competition. While other individuals have been associated with the elections in December, the only person to seriously discuss a candidacy was rallying icon Carlos Sainz Sr. The 63-year-old father of Williams driver Carlos Sainz shared on social media that he will not pursue the position of FIA president. "After careful consideration, I have concluded that the current circumstances are not favorable for me to lay the foundation for my candidacy," Sainz stated. He also noted that campaigning for president would interfere with his preparation for next year's Dakar Rally. "These issues have thus led me to adopt a realistic approach and step back from my FIA ambitions for the time being," the Spaniard explained. He added that he still believes the FIA "requires significant changes" and will "closely monitor future developments with great interest."
