Vasseur: Ferrari 'team' continues to back me.

"This is an issue that does not exist"

Frederic Vasseur maintains that he has the backing of Ferrari's top leadership. During the Canadian GP weekend, the Frenchman faced speculation that the disappointing start to the 2025 season could lead to the Italian team not renewing his contract. Michael Schmidt from Auto Motor und Sport reported on Sunday that he heard Ferrari chairman John Elkann had a face-to-face discussion with Red Bull's Christian Horner, while also considering promoting Ferrari WEC head Antonello Coletta.

Additionally, despite publicly supporting Vasseur, drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are finding it difficult to conceal their frustration. "The team understands my position," Leclerc remarked to Sky Italia late on Sunday, after having tense disagreements with his team during qualifying and the race. "The rumors are distracting, but I don’t believe they will significantly affect us."

Hamilton pointed out that Ferrari's car updates seem to have stalled and alluded to "big changes" possibly underway behind the scenes. "Clearly, we need updates now," the seven-time world champion stated, "and I’m not sure why other teams are able to bring them while we cannot."

Broadly, Hamilton remarked, "There are many things occurring behind the scenes currently. A lot needs to change. Personally, I know we have no chance of winning the championship, but I’m trying to guide the team towards necessary adjustments to make our car competitive for next year," said the 40-year-old.

Vasseur disagrees with Hamilton regarding the urgency of the car updates for 2025. "They will come soon, but I don’t believe that updates are the main issue," he asserted. "When you achieve the fastest sector time in qualifying, it’s not due to the car malfunctioning or lacking updates. The key is to concentrate on ourselves, which is not what we managed to do this weekend."

Vasseur expressed his anger towards significant segments of the Italian media that fueled the narrative surrounding his uncertain future at Ferrari and the possibility of Leclerc moving to Mercedes. "Is the company still supporting me?" Vasseur asked Sky Italia. "Yes – this is an issue that does not exist. We are aligned and all moving in the same direction. What we need is tranquility. I do not wish to contend with anyone, either from outside or within – we must unite and function as a team."

"Look at Mercedes – they endured three very tough weekends, yet they did not instigate radical changes, and today they celebrated success. We are currently second in the championship, so I do not perceive any drama or impending doom."

Vasseur, 57, added, "Do we feel under siege due to the rumors? Were there unusual mistakes from Leclerc and intense team radio communication? I do not believe the atmosphere around us has enhanced our performance. We are not under overwhelming pressure, yet there is some tension. In such circumstances, especially during a tight competition, we struggle to perform at our best. Both we and the drivers are not in a peaceful state."
