George Russell: Contracts don't mean anything in Formula 1
George Russell's contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the season. Aston Martin is rumored to be interested in the British racer, but George himself expects to remain in his current team.
George Russell: "There is trust between me and the team. It seems to me an abnormal situation when the drivers have long–term contracts - Charles Leclair and Lando Norris for five years, Oscar Piastri for three. Maybe I forgot to name some of them, but many of them have signed long-term contracts with teams, and this is not normal.
Mercedes has a different approach. I don't want to say that I have to prove my right to a place in the team every year, but the fact that I don't have a contract yet doesn't bother me at all. Because it doesn't matter if you have a contract or not, but if you show results, then you're fine, and if you don't, then you're in trouble.
There were drivers like Daniel Ricciardo who had a contract but was fired from the team. Sergio Perez had a contract signed, but he didn't stay. Contracts don't mean anything in Formula 1.
As for me, as long as I'm racing, I'm fast, and I'm on the podium... it all gives me confidence that the contract is just a piece of paper with a signature."
